Removal and Installation of the Ring of Light LED’s is easy once you understand the concept and apply it with patience. Take your time as this process REQUIRES patience. These directions assume you know how to solder and to disassemble/reassemble the XBOX 360 Wireless Controller. TIP: Remove only Player 2, 3 & 4 LED’s first. In the next step, you can power up the controller and use Player 1 as an indicator your controller is actually powered on. 1. In a clean, well lit area, place the circuit board in front of you with the head phone jack pointed at you and the Plug and Charge end facing away from you. 2. The easiest way to remove an LED is to bath it with a generous amount of solder against the positive and negative connections to heat up and melt the existing solder. Using a light skimming motion with the soldering iron, work the tip back and forth over the existing LED until it loosens itself from the mounts. Do not force the LED off, else you risk breaking off the mounts from the circuit board. The reference video shows you the actual process while zoomed in with a clear angle. 3. If you need to clean off the mounts better, hold some solder braid over the mounts and press down with the soldering iron to clean off excess solder. You can also use the soldering iron, but be careful you do not burn the circuit board. Installation 4. Before you begin, you need to determine if you are installing the LED’s on to a Matrix or CG Board. Use the pictures in Appendix A to determine your circuit board type 5. Once the board type is determined, please refer to the pictures in Appendix B to find out which side of your new LED is Positive and which is Negative. 6. The Positive and Negative ends of each LED must be matched up properly to the corresponding mount on the circuit board. Once you have determined which end of the LED is Positive and Negative, you then need to reference Appendix A to determine the proper direction. For this example, we will use the Player 3 LED. 7. Using your tweezers, remove the LED carefully from its packaging. Turn it upside down to look at the markings and determine its polarity. With its negative end pointed away from you, hold it over the Player 3 LED location. TIP: An easy way to determine if you have the proper alignment is to power up the controller while the XBOX 360 console is unplugged. Doing this will have all four LED flash continuously while you work. Using 2 AA batteries, attach the battery pack to the back of the controller as you normally would for game play. You can use a Plug N Charge battery pack, but the connection is not as good as the AA battery pack and could disconnect while you are testing. Use the rubber grommet from the top half of the shell to power up the center button. Press the LED down over the mounts. If the LED is in the proper position and is aligned, the LED will flash along with the Player 1 LED. Once you have verified the proper direction, apply some solder to your soldering iron. Then immediately, touch one end of the LED to seal it in place; repeat with the other end. As you are doing this, the LED should be flashing as the controller is still trying to find the console. 8. Use the same process for the remaining LED’s. |
